This vintage Kilim is the story of 2 families joining together. When a couple become engaged each respective family weave one side of the Kilim. It is then sewn together before the wedding to symbolise the coming together and connection of the 2 families.
Kilim (Turkish kilim, coarse woven blanket) is an expression for a common Turkish weave but also the name of the technique used in its manufacture. Turkish Kilims are produced primarily by nomads and are made as carpets (without pile), bags and tent curtains.
